In mythology, Cassandra is cursed with the ability to tell prophecies, yet no one believes her due to a horny god (Apollo). She is also murdered after being taken basically hostage to breed by another dude – because this is what becomes of women dealing with men and their penises.
This book is a collection of short stories one could argue Cassandra did see – and as the reader, some of it is highly believable. You may have at some point or currently are dealing with some situations or emotions the women in these stories find themselves in. However, some of it is not as believable, such as women becoming cockroach-Cronenberg-like creatures that can kill their boyfriends by biting their heads off. Not believable but certainly something to hope for!
Kirby’s writing is hilarious, passionate, and never lacking in detail. I really loved all these stories for one reason or another – it is a great collection that explores deep emotions women hold for those in their lives, the pain and anger they may feel, and the ways we all in some way fight back against what oppresses us.
