Sometimes you need to learn the hard way to stop reading the Acknowledgments and Reader’s Guide before you read the actual book. I, unfortunately, read this is basically (respectfully) stealing the plot of When Harry Met Sally (a movie I LOVE) and then I was angry and the book was cheapened after that. It took about 150 pages after that discovery for it to grow on me. And it primarily grew on me because the sex scene was very hot, so I was willing to forgive a lot after that.
Regardless of it being a redo of an older story, I think Henry does well putting together all the necessary ingredients of a rom-com that will have you reading even if you’re mad, even if you’re bored, waiting for the two characters to get together. That’s a skill! I have read her other book and will be reading her new one so it has nothing to do with her why this book made me mad. Romcoms don’t have to be entirely new, memorable, or awe-inspiring, after all. So long as it’s written well, is mostly believable, and filled with love, sex appeal, and hope, then it’s usually worth it!
